Creating and offering travelers environmentally sustainable experiences and offerings is of growing importance in the travel industry. According to the Travel Industry Association of America (TIA Outlook 2008) nearly eight in ten leisure travelers consider themselves to be environmentally conscious and nearly 53 percent of all travelers would be more likely to visit an attraction that demonstrated a commitment to environmental sustainability.

The Gettysburg Foundation and the National Park Service share in this concern for the environment and are committed to its preservation through sustainable building designs for the new museum and visitor center, as well as plans to improve wetlands, water quality and wildlife habitat throughout the battlefield.

We are also committed to extending the visitor experience, by enhancing the opportunities to explore the battlefield on foot and bicycle.
