Visiting Gettysburg. Our Country’s Common Ground.

From July 1 through 3, 1863, 165,000 soldiers clashed in battle at Gettysburg. Seven million bullets were fired. More than 51,000 soldiers became casualties, each fighting for his beliefs. And the tables turned in the Civil War, leading to one nation, indivisible. Today, this place of historic bravery inspires nearly two million visitors a year. You are encouraged to become one of them.

To plan your visit, learn more about the Museum and Visitor Center, the Gettysburg Cyclorama painting experience film A New Birth of Freedom and the exhibits on Gettysburg and the Civil War in the museum. Discover the sacred 6,000-acre Battlefield, with nearly 1,400 monuments and memorials. Plan to attend one of our many upcoming events.

Don't forget to also visit the Eisenhower National Historic Site, the iconic Gettysburg home of President Dwight D. and Mamie Eisenhower, or the David Wills House in dowtown Gettysburg where President Abraham Lincoln put the finishing touches on the Gettysburg Address.

If you are an educator, learn more about our special programs and tours for students, and find out how you can get more involved in this important historic landmark.
